The Power of Quitting

It seems there are recommendations abound espousing the virtues of "staying the course". Putting in a greater effort to make it through. Not giving up. But what if, just what if your objectives have changed? That the things that used to bring you joy no longer does. The emphasis on discipline and focus and determination as precursors to happiness should be re-evaluated from time to time. On a daily basis our environment changes and the people in our lives are constantly evolving. Let's give ourselves the permission to quit that job that no longer fulfills us. Quit that relationship that no longer makes us happy. Quit comparing where we are to where we ought to be. And finally quit caring what others think.
It's absolutely not easy to leave the familiar. To redefine oneself. There is no known time tested recipe to ensure that things don't go from bad to worse. However, what I fear most is living a mediocre life. If someone asked me how I was doing I didn't want to answer "fine". I wanted to reply, "absolutely F-in incredible!".
So on a cool sunny day in March I decided to quit. Everything. And bought a ticket across the Atlantic, leaving North America for North Africa.
